Man of La Mancha tells the story of Miguel de Cervantes, a failed author, soldier, actor, and tax collector who is imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition in the late 16th century. In an effort to defend himself against accusations of offending the Church, and to protect a beloved manuscript from being taken, Cervantes and his fellow prisoners perform a play-within-a-play . Cervantes transforms himself into Don Quixote, an elderly nobleman who has lost his mind after reading too many books of chivalry and sets out on a quest to right wrongs. With the help of Sancho Panza, his squire, Don Quixote fights windmills he believes to be dragons and defends his “lady” Dulcinea, in reality a downtrodden prostitute named Aldonza. This production is not suitable for younger children.
